Potomac Falls, Va. – Feb. 10, 2002 – Tired of not having a large enough selection of women's golf equipment? Tired of shopping in a man's world and getting ignored? Tired of having to "make do?"
If your interests are geared more toward divots than diamonds, head to BogeysandBirdies.com, the online outlet created for women by women who love golf.
The site was born after that spring day five years ago when a friend invited Fran Romeo to ride along while he played the links.
"I bought my first set of clubs – steel shafts, big grips, heavy and too long – and before I was done playing 18 holes, my arms were exhausted and my back was killing me," Fran said.
She soon realized that although the fastest growing group of golfers is women, most golf shops on and off the course cater to men. That's when she decided to make a difference by catering to female golfers and launched BogeysandBirdies.com, the online source for the full range of women golfers' needs.
Fran has designed golf clubs for women of all sizes – super petite to tall, right and left handed. Her specially designed line of golf bags are expected to debut soon.
"I was tired of having to hunt for golf equipment and quality products – everything was designed for men," she said. "Women are not a priority in this man's sport. I want them to know they are my priority."
Fran said she designed the site to be an easily navigable and uniquely inviting experience that would encourage visitors to stay a while and shop around. The site is constantly evolving in response to customer feedback, and new products – including clubs, shoes, hats, balls, jewelry and decorating accessories -- are added daily. Gift certificates and travel services are also available.
"I do not want to carry the same old products that other sites and golf stores carry. I want to let women know that they do have a choice," she said. "Not every golf bag needs to be black, blue, green and red, and not every divot tool and ball marker needs to look like the other."
Fran prides herself on the highest level of quality and personalized customer service. She responds personally to each customer placing their first order, and if she gets a request for something not offered on the site, she will track it down. Her attention to her customers' needs shows – she's had several requests for mens and childrens products so she's recently launched a Gentlemen's Corner and a Kids Corner.
Check out her Antiques and Uniques store. You'll be amazed at the collection of golf antiques and one-of-a kind golf items.
BogeysandBirdies.com also stands strong in its commitment to the community, with several features to raise awareness and funds for worthy causes – including breast cancer research, domestic violence prevention and the victims and families of the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks. All net proceeds from sales in its Pink Ribbon store go to help fight breast cancer. All net proceeds from sales in its Americana store go to help the victims of Sept. 11th.
"I believe in giving back," Fran said.
